Game Boy: the ruler of the 90s!

When Nintendo decided to make NES’s successor, nor did she believe the success it would make. Game Boy came out 33 years ago in Japan a few months later it was released in the U.S.A.. Game Boy revolutionzed the 90s as the players could take it with them and play with it wherever they were until the battery ran out. Although it wasn’t the first portable handheld console, Game Boy was the first to let the user play a variety of games using the cartdriges.

Gunpei Yokoi was the inventor of Game Boy The idea came to him when he saw a bored businessman playing with his calculator. Gunpei was known for the phrase “lateral thinking with withered technology”, that is the idea that Nintendo could and should design and sell innovative products built with outdated tech in order to save money on production. Game Boy was the best reflection of that philosophy.

The first Game Boy managed to reach 118 million sales until Nintendo decided to stop its distribution in 2003.

Nowadays we can find it in a museum since smartphones took over the market. However, many remember the good old days when they used to play with their Game Boy for hours.
