The first keyboard was a typerwriter!

The now common way to input data on your PC in the 50s it was revolutionary method. Researchers from the MIT began experimenting on the first keyboard to in order to achieve direct data input to the computer. Till then, they used punched cards to feed their programs with data. After years of research, the first keyboard was completed and called Flexowriter -an electrically-controlled typewriter-, which was found that it was easier to use and its low cost made it ideal.

Flexrowriter’s keyboard is similar to the keyboards we know, but it had some important differences. At a glance, you’ll see that the buttons F1 to F13 are all located on the right side of the keyboard, tho we are used to seeing those keys on the top side of the keyboard. Furthermore, on the left side there were buttons with specific functions.
